Student Life
Students enjoy tremendous opportunities for academic, artistic and extracurricular activities at the University. All faculties have academic groups where students can do research under the supervision of well-known scholars and scientists. These groups also 7organize annual academic conferences and competition.
There are over two dozen student clubs including literary, foreign language, art, geography and debating clubs, where students have the opportunity to manifest their talent, follow their interests, add to their knowledge and widen their perspectives.
Of special interest are the activities of groups in the arts. There are choruses, chamber music groups, satirical performing groups, Armenian and jazz music ensembles, and theater and other groups.
Many students spend summer vacations in the University's resort facilities and camps in Dilijan, Hankevan and Biurakan. Others participate in student construction groups who help build in areas devastated by the 1988 earthquake or at large construction sites in Armenia.
Students sponsored by the State receive educational stipends and those needing lodging are provided with housing in the University's dormitories. Various newly-created foundations play an important role in assisting needy students.
The Student's Association, the Students' Trade Union Organization and the Council of University Graduates principally work on issues concerning student life.
International Cooperation with Other Universities
Yerevan State University enjoys scientific and cultural contacts with 79 universities abroad. More than 5,000 foreign students from
70 countries around the world have studied at Yerevan State University.
Publications
Some 100 volumes, including textbooks, academic studies and fiction, are issued annually by the Publishing House of Yerevan State University. The University's principal periodicals, published three times a year are: Yerevan University, Scientific Notes, and the University Herald.
